Investigators said a Dodge driven by 23-year-old Anthony Mayes of Conetoe was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control, crossed into the southbound lanes, and collided with a southbound commercial motor vehicle.

Authorities reported that the tractor-trailer, described as an 18-wheeler, lost the rear set of wheels on its trailer and stopped just off the roadway near the intersection.
