Charlotte, NC (May 12, 2024) - According to local news reports, a tragic accident occurred on Providence Road near Sardis and Fairview roads. A pedestrian, 58-year-old Amanollah Rashidi, was hit and killed on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place around 2:41 p.m. when Mr. Rashidi was pinned underneath a pickup truck in a gas station parking lot.
When officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) arrived at the scene, they found Rashidi unresponsive under a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also responded, and Rashidi was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with the DWI Task Force and Motor Unit, conducted a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Rashidi was kneeling in front of the truck, out of the driver's view, when the driver, identified as Finn Thomas Devine, moved the vehicle forward, unintentionally hitting and pinning Rashidi.
Rashidi's next of kin have been informed of his tragic death. The investigation remains active, and further information will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office as it becomes available.
