Stokes County, NC (April 21, 2026) - As per local news reporting and statements from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle crash on NC-8 at the intersection of South Stokes School Road resulted in the death of a 67-year-old woman and charges against a teenage driver.
Authorities reported that the collision occurred at approximately 9:29 a.m. when a 17-year-old driver operating a 2019 Nissan Versa attempted to make a left turn onto NC-8 from South Stokes School Road. At the same time, Almeta Bridges Sizemore of Walnut Cove was traveling southbound on NC-8 in a 2020 Hyundai Veloster. Troopers indicated that the teenager failed to yield the right of way, leading to a crash in the intersection.
Investigators said Sizemore attempted to avoid the collision by swerving, but the vehicles still struck one another. Following the impact, the Nissan came to rest in the roadway while the Hyundai left the road, striking a cable box, a concrete driveway, and nearby infrastructure before coming to a stop.
Emergency crews transported both drivers to a nearby hospital. Sizemore later died from her injuries at approximately 10:46 a.m. The teenage driver sustained injuries but survived. Authorities confirmed that no impairment was suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
The 17-year-old driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to yield the right of way, and failure to stop at a stop sign. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
How Accident Investigations Help Clarify What Happened
Incidents like this often involve details that take time to fully understand. After a serious crash, investigators work to gather physical evidence, review roadway conditions, and evaluate driver actions to determine how the collision occurred. These steps are important in building a clear timeline and identifying contributing factors.
In many cases, witness statements, traffic patterns, and vehicle damage are carefully analyzed together. As more information becomes available, initial reports may be updated to reflect a more complete picture of what happened and why. This process helps ensure that findings are based on reliable information rather than early assumptions.
In situations involving a car accident, clear documentation such as medical records, crash reports, and repair estimates can also help explain how injuries developed and what recovery may involve. Resources related to understanding auto accident claims often highlight how these records support a more accurate evaluation of the incident and its effects.
What Families In Stokes County Should Know After A Serious Crash

These steps can feel overwhelming, especially while dealing with the emotional impact of a loss.
Developing a clear strategy often involves reviewing all available facts and considering how those details influence insurance discussions or potential claims.
