Greensboro, NC (October 27, 2026) - A pedestrian died at the scene after being struck by a Toyota Corolla on East Cone Boulevard near US 29 North in Greensboro, according to the Greensboro Police Department. Officers responded around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the pedestrian was walking north across the eastbound lanes when the Corolla, traveling east toward US 29, struck them. Officers withheld the pedestrian’s identity pending notification of the family.

Police said speed and impairment were not considered factors in the collision.

Cone Boulevard was initially closed in both directions between Orange Street and Sands Drive. Police reported that the road had reopened by the 11:19 a.m. update.

Greensboro police continued to investigate the collision.

What Investigators Examine Beyond Speed

Greensboro police said speed and impairment were not considered factors in the East Cone Boulevard collision. Those findings address two possible contributors, but do not explain the entire interaction between the pedestrian crossing the eastbound lanes and the approaching Corolla. The timing of those movements and what was visible before impact would help explain whether there was an opportunity to avoid the collision.

Under North Carolina law, a wrongful-death claim requires a death caused by another person’s wrongful act, neglect or default under circumstances that would have supported a claim had the person survived. The action must be brought by the deceased person’s personal representative or collector. A pedestrian hit by car lawyer can assess the connection between the conduct and the death by examining the available evidence about the collision.
