Ocracoke, NC (October 07, 2026) - A golf cart driver was injured and taken by ambulance to Outer Banks Hospital after a truck struck the cart on Lighthouse Road in Ocracoke, according to the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the collision occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. Wednesday in the Hyde County, North Carolina, community. The truck left the scene after striking the golf cart.
The sheriff’s office said investigators identified the suspected truck driver the next morning as Edgar Antonio Garcia Hernandez, 25. Deputies reported that he was cooperating with law enforcement and initially faced traffic charges.
Following further investigation into the golf cart driver’s injuries, Hernandez was charged with felony hit-and-run causing bodily injury. In its subsequent update, the sheriff’s office reported that he had been held at the Dare County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.
An Injury Inquiry Beyond the Charging Update
When an investigation of injuries leads to a more serious charge, an injured person’s own inquiry should still focus on the care received and the difficulties the injury has caused. In this Ocracoke collision, deputies reported that further investigation of the golf cart driver’s injuries preceded the felony hit-and-run charge. That development concerned the reported prosecution; it did not provide an account of the driver’s treatment or recovery.
For someone considering car accident legal representation, explaining the treatment behind an expense is more useful than relying on the charge to describe the injury. Accident-related medical expenses can be part of a bodily injury claim, subject to responsibility and applicable coverage. A charging update does not identify which services a person received, why they were provided or what they cost. Those answers come from the person’s care and billing information.
Obtaining the relevant medical records helps clarify the treatment behind an expense. If records are delayed, identify the care and dates being requested rather than treating the public injury announcement as a substitute. A statement showing an amount due and a medical record explaining treatment answer different questions.
Ask About Treatment Expenses That Need an Answer
Recovering after a truck strikes a golf cart can be difficult without also having to interpret a charging update. If a treatment expense is causing concern, you can ask an attorney whether an injury claim may be available to address it. Explain which care the expense concerns and whether you are waiting for related medical information. That gives the conversation a concrete purpose: understanding whether the expense could be included and what needs clarification, rather than asking the criminal charge to answer a personal financial question.
