Caldwell County, NC (September 03, 2026) - According to local reports citing the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Jackie Wayne Mayo, 68, of Lincolnton in Lincoln County, died in a three-vehicle collision on US-64 near Ward Green Lane on Thursday afternoon.

Troopers responded at approximately 12:19 p.m. to the crash in the Gamewell area west of Lenoir. Investigators said Mayo was traveling west on a 1992 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he approached a 2018 Honda Pilot stopped in the travel lane because of heavy traffic.

According to troopers, the motorcycle did not slow for the stopped traffic and struck the Honda’s rear-left quarter panel. The impact redirected the motorcycle into the eastbound lane, where it collided with an oncoming 2003 GMC pickup truck.

Mayo died from his injuries at the scene. The State Highway Patrol said its initial investigation did not identify speed or alcohol as contributing factors.
