Watauga County, NC (September 03, 2026) - Local reports citing the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that a 21-year-old Statesville woman died following a collision between a passenger car and a flatbed truck Thursday afternoon.

Troopers responded to NC-105 at Dove Acres around 2:52 p.m. on September 3. According to investigators, a 2014 Mitsubishi passenger car was traveling south when its driver attempted a left turn into a private driveway. A northbound flatbed truck struck the car during the turn.

The Mitsubishi driver, Veronica Grace Virtue, 21, of Statesville, was transported to Watauga Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. The flatbed truck driver was not injured.

The Highway Patrol’s initial investigation did not identify speed or alcohol as contributing factors. Troopers reported that no charges would be filed.

NC-105 remained closed in the area for approximately one hour while troopers conducted the investigation at the scene.
