Mebane, NC (August 22, 2026) - Information from local news reports and North Carolina State Highway Patrol statements indicates that a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on I-40/I-85 in Alamance County early Saturday morning.
The collision was reported near Exit 157 for Buckhorn Road at about 1:50 a.m. Authorities identified the pedestrian as 26-year-old Rodney Link of Burlington. Link was reportedly walking along the westbound side of the interstate when he was struck by a vehicle.
According to reports, the first vehicle left the scene after the collision. A second vehicle later struck the pedestrian and remained at the location. Link’s vehicle was found parked on the shoulder a short distance from the crash scene.
Troopers had not released a description of the vehicle involved in the initial collision. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash and has asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
How Pedestrian Crash Investigations Can Affect Insurance Questions
Fatal roadway collisions commonly require follow-up by law enforcement, insurance carriers, and others reviewing the available evidence. Reports, vehicle locations, witness statements, roadway conditions, and any available video can all become part of the investigation as officials work to establish the sequence of events.
A car accident involving a pedestrian may also require continued medical and financial review when injuries are involved. Families seeking to hire a pedestrian accident attorney may find it useful to understand that the full effects of an injury are not always known immediately.
Insurance questions can change as new facts are confirmed. Keeping records of communications, expenses, reports, and follow-up information can help provide a clearer picture as a claim or investigation progresses.
Understanding Next Steps After A Burlington Car Accident
After a serious pedestrian crash, families may face insurance questions and paperwork while waiting for additional information from investigators. Organized records and consistent follow-up can make it easier to understand what information is available and what questions still need answers. “People should not feel they have to sort through every question alone while they are dealing with a serious accident,” says Attorney Matthew Fleishman. “Getting clear information early can help families make decisions with more confidence.”
