Stallings, NC (July 19, 2026) - Local reports and police statements indicate that a three-vehicle collision occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in the 6100 block of Stevens Mill Road near the Shannamara neighborhood and Idlewild Road. Stallings Police said six people were involved, and four were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.

Investigators reported that Mariaha Nicole Ladd, 18, of Stallings, was traveling north on Stevens Mill Road when she attempted to pass another vehicle in a designated no-passing zone. Police said her vehicle sideswiped an oncoming vehicle while in the southbound lane before striking a second vehicle head-on. Authorities identified speed, illegal passing, and impairment as factors believed to have contributed to the crash.

Shannon Oxendine Bennett, 43, of Monroe, was a passenger in the vehicle struck head-on. She died from her injuries on July 22. Her sons, Masson Bennett and Landon Bennett, were identified in local coverage. David Pressley, who had been in Bennett’s vehicle, reportedly suffered at least 25 broken bones and internal injuries.

After an investigation, police charged Ladd with second-degree murder and two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle on August 19. Court records indicated that she remained hospitalized for injuries sustained in the collision and that a temporary unsecured bond of $950,000 had been set, subject to later review after her release from medical care. Local reports listed differing future court dates.

How Car Accident Investigations Can Affect Insurance Questions

A serious crash can leave families and injured people with unanswered questions long after the initial emergency response. Police reports, medical records, witness accounts, vehicle damage, and later investigative findings may all help establish a more complete account of what occurred.

A car accident review often focuses on the sequence of events before impact, including vehicle positions, roadway markings, speed estimates, and possible contributing conditions. People seeking to understand the process may consider hiring a car accident attorney when insurance issues, injury documentation, or conflicting accounts make the situation harder to evaluate.

Early reports can change as investigators receive additional evidence or medical information. The time needed to resolve an insurance claim or civil case can depend on the severity of injuries, the number of vehicles involved, available coverage, and the facts established through the investigation.
