Huntersville, NC (May 28, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 4:15 p.m. on Sam Furr Road. The collision, which involved a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta, resulted in the death of 25-year-old Shakeem Chaney and left another driver critically injured.

First responders, including the Huntersville Fire Department and MEDIC, were dispatched to the scene near Old Statesville Road. The severity of the crash led to the closure of Sam Furr Road between Old Statesville and Westmoreland Roads until around 9:30 p.m. as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the incident.

The deceased, identified as Shakeem Chaney, was pronounced dead at the scene. Chaney was driving the Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to a Charlotte hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Huntersville Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the accident to contact Officer Jonathon Tolley at 704-464-5400.
