Alston was held without bond on these charges, with an additional $30,000 secured bond for two probation violations.
The second hit-and-run occurred early on May 5, 2024. At approximately 5:00 a.m., 28-year-old Phillip Farrington was walking in the 2400 block of North Roxboro Street when he was struck by a northbound 2014 Lexus sedan. The driver fled the scene, and Farrington was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver, 22-year-old Nicole Lee of Durham, was later identified and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death, no operator's license, and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance. Lee was released on a $6,500 unsecured bond.
Both cases are still under investigation, and police have indicated that further charges could be forthcoming.
