Rowan County, NC (May 19, 2024) – Local news outlets report that an 11-year-old boy was injured in a boating accident on High Rock Lake, on the northern side of Crane Creek, around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, along with Rowan County EMS, Miller's Ferry Fire Department, and the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, responded to the incident.

The boy, Lincoln Crews, sustained severe injuries due to a propeller strike after reportedly falling out of the boat. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he underwent three surgeries to treat serious wounds on the left side of his body. According to a GoFundMe page set up by a close family friend, Lincoln is recovering well but will require extensive rehabilitation.

Despite the severity of the injuries, officials confirmed that Lincoln's condition is stable and he is expected to recover. The community has rallied around the Crews family, with many contributing to the GoFundMe campaign to help with medical expenses and other costs associated with his recovery.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission emphasized the importance of boating safety, reminding everyone to keep a proper lookout, have sober boat operators, and ensure children under 13 wear appropriate life vests, as required by state law.

According to the GoFundMe organizer, Lorrel Hyde, "Lincoln is tackling this one step at a time and is doing amazing! Surgery scheduled today and tomorrow as well. Please continue to pray for no infection, as that is a priority due to the lake water." Hyde also highlighted Lincoln's positive attitude and resilience, sharing that he is known for his energetic and joyful spirit.

The family is currently facing significant financial challenges, including the cost of renting an Airbnb near the hospital, meals, gas, loss of work, and future therapies. Hyde encouraged the community to support the family during this difficult time.
