Winnsboro, SC (January 6, 2024) - According to local news sources, a tragic three-vehicle collision occurred early Saturday morning in Fairfield County, near Winnsboro, South Carolina, resulting in one fatality and another individual being hospitalized. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened at approximately 5:58 a.m. on SC 34, roughly five miles west of Winnsboro.

The sequence of events, as described by Master Trooper Gary Miller, began when a 2007 Honda Accord, heading west on SC 34, sideswiped a 2023 Chevrolet heavy-duty pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. Following this, the Honda driver lost control and subsequently collided with a 2011 Ford Expedition, also traveling east. The impact forced the Ford Expedition off the road, where it struck a guardrail.

Tragically, the driver of the Honda Accord, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased is expected to be released by the Fairfield County Coroner's Office. In contrast, the occupants of the Chevrolet truck, including the driver and three passengers, were fortunate to escape without injuries.

The driver of the Ford Expedition sustained injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. The two passengers accompanying the Ford driver were reported to be unharmed in the incident. As investigations continue, the South Carolina Highway Patrol has not released further details surrounding the circumstances of the collision.

This incident has cast a somber mood over the community, highlighting the unpredictability and potential severity of road accidents. Authorities are likely to continue their examination of the crash site and vehicle conditions to ascertain the primary causes of this fatal accident. In the meantime, local traffic officials may issue further safety advisories to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
